Kathryn Crawford, B.Ed. Field Experience Associate, Sessional Instructor.
Kathryn has most recently been working with preservice teachers as an evaluator and instructor in a Bachelor of Education After Degree program. Her classroom experience includes K-6 resource room and 7-9 Learning Strategies environments. These classroom experiences, combined with her focus on Special Education in her B.Ed, have provided excellent platforms to explore learner needs and how we as educators foster student growth. Contributions to this Problem of Practice build on this area of interest, as evidenced by addressing meeting learner needs, SETT, mentorship, incorporating assistive tools, defining the learning environments and collaborating in designing visuals that bring meaning to the project. Contributions to the overall project include: researching the various components/ /setting up communication and collaboration tools/ in the design and integration of various components /editing and revising/and in collaborative brainstorming and defining how we address the problem of integrating curriculum as a means to engage community, make learning meaningful, and meet diverse learner needs through UDL. |
Cristy Leonard-Glaspey. B.Ed. Cristy has 17 years of classroom experience with a
range from Kindergarten to Grade 8, with the majority of her years spent
as an elementary generalist. She is passionate about creating a community of
learners who care about one another while being authentically engaged in their
learning. Feeling respected and being provided with choices have always been valuable
aspects of the learning environment Cristy provides for her learners. In the fall of September 2014, Cristy had the opportunity to attend a 2 day Environmental Sustainability workshop that ignited a new passion in Outdoor Education that she strives to instill in young learners. Her passions are evident in her contributions to this project with the outdoor learning spaces, embedding 21st Century Competencies and Cross-Curricular planning of Inquiry Units. On a personal note, Cristy loves spending time with her husband, two sons, Dave the dog and reading in the sun during the summer months!

Emily Van Eyk BA, B.Ed. Emily began her teaching career 7 years ago in Ontario at the intermediate level. Since moving to Alberta, she has enjoyed the challenge of working with younger learners, most recently in the roll of grade 4 French immersion generalist. Creating flexible learning environments along with her students, and seeking new and purposeful ways to engage learners through Universal Learning continue to fuel her passion for education. Focusing on meaningful assessment and evaluation practices, her contributions to this project include: the creation and collection of teacher and student assessment exemplars, development of learner engagement strategies, and research on effective demonstration of learning and purposeful feedback. Additionally, Emily collaborated during the design, layout, and editing process of the website, as well as the collation of valuable resources and tools to support the implementation of a STEAM unit of inquiry. She looks forward to returning to the classroom in 2016 to apply the learning she has done throughout the development of this project. Until then, Emily is enjoying time with her youngest learner, her 4 month old son Daxton!
