Many of the curricular outcomes within the grade 4 Alberta Program of Studies connect and echo across the subject disciplines. By creating a visual mind map, an educator can envision creating cross-curricular experiences as a matter of connecting the dots. For example, Math discusses patterns and fractions. Patterns weave into Music, Dance and Physical Education with beats, rhythm and melody. Further, patterns are found within Visual Art with observation and recording skills, such as texture, which in turn connect with Science in examining the natural environment. Patterns also extend on a more conceptual level which can connect with Language Art's story writing. Visualization helps with STEAM integration because a teacher can make connections by moving items around and visually seeing the multiple possibilities.
